DASH Athletes Dominate County Championships

DASH Athletics Club confirmed it's credentials as Stockport's top track and field Club with superb performances in the Greater Manchester Indoor Athletics League this weekend at Manchester Regional Athletics arena.

With DASH athletes winning an astounding thirty-eight medals the Championships proved to be a fitting finale to the indoor season for the Club's young athletes who have also, in their first season in the Greater Manchester Indoor League, took the League title in four of the six age group competitions, ahead of some of the UK's biggest and most established clubs.

The Under 15 Girls were also crowned League Champions and, despite fielding a weakened team due to illness, celebrated in style, with the sprint relay team of Hannah Arnold, Nicky Screawn, Georgie Park and Charlotte Ogden coming away with an emphatic victory and the gold medal. A fortnight after taking bronze in the Northern Championships Triple Jump in Sheffield, Charlotte Ogden excelled to win Gold medals in the triple jump and 2 lap sprint and a bronze in the long jump. Georgie Park took silver medals in the standing triple jump and 4 lap race, losing out on the gold medal in a dip for the line in the latter. Nicky Screawn took bronze in the speed bounce and silver in the 6 lap race.

The Under 15 Boys were also the winners of their League and their Championship medals came via golds for David Ward in the speed bounce and bronzes from Mark Jackson in the speed bounce and Peter Bridgland in the shot put.

DASH AC Head of Coaching, Joe Frost said 'In the Club's first year in the Greater Manchester League and only the fifth year since the founding of the Club, all our teams are doing brilliantly, with the support of a first-class Coaching team and the support of all our Athletes and their families. It's great to start the Olympic year on such a high note, and hopefully these results and all the work that DASH is doing in Stockport's schools will encourage many more young people in Stockport to come down to the Club and try athletics - it really is a sport with something to offer everyone, and who knows, we may have a future Olympic Champion in Stockport!'
