DASH Athletes Dominate County Championships
Monday 30 January 2012
DASH Athletics Club confirmed it's credentials as Stockport's
top track and field Club with superb performances in the Greater
Manchester Indoor Athletics League this weekend at Manchester
Regional Athletics arena.
With DASH athletes winning an astounding thirty-eight medals the
Championships proved to be a fitting finale to the indoor season
for the Club's young athletes who have also, in their first season
in the Greater Manchester Indoor League, took the League title in
four of the six age group competitions, ahead of some of the UK's
biggest and most established clubs.

The Under 11 Girls Team, who finished a close second in the
League to an outstanding Bolton United Harriers and ahead of
third-placed Altrincham, came away with a silver medal from
Catherine Giller in the standing long jump and from the sprint
relay team of Giller, Chloe Buchan, Sophie Wisdom and Katie
Waterworth. There was also a bronze for Sophie Wisdom in the 3 lap
race.
The Under 11 Boys dominated the season from start to finish,
winning the League ahead of second-placed Bury AC and third-placed
Sale Harriers. The boys demonstrated a great team spirit, coming
away with a Gold medal in the relay from a team of Leal Dewsnap,
Marcus Graham, James Ainley and Sam Cofano. There were individual
Gold medals from Matthew Ainley in the Speed Bounce and twin
brother James who took the 1 Lap and 3 Lap sprint double. Silver
medals came courtesy of Matthew Ainley's vertical jump and a double
for Sam Cofano in the 1 Lap sprint and standing long jump. There
were bronze medals for Mike Day in the speed bounce and Sam Cofano
in the 3 Lap.
The Under 13 Girls team finished sixth in the League behind
fifth-placed Trafford AC but came away with Championship medals
from Rebecca Muirhead who took silver in the shot put and bronze
for Jenni Park in the 2 Lap sprint.
The Under 13 Boys did superbly to win the league ahead of a very
strong Trafford AC in second and Bolton United Harriers in third.
The Championships brought some great results, including three clean
sweeps on the podium. These came in the triple jump, with James
Cash finishing ahead of Adam Day and James Cullen. In the speed
bounce Alex Gibbons took the gold, Sam Doherty the silver and James
Cullen the Gold. In the 6 lap race the Gold medal again went to
Gibbons, with another silver for Doherty and bronze for Day. A team
of Doherty, Gibbons, Cash and Joe Mullin took silver behind
Trafford AC in the sprint relay. Oher individual medals came from
Joe Mullin who took gold in the shot and bronze for Cash in the
long jump.

The Under 15 Girls were also crowned League Champions and,
despite fielding a weakened team due to illness, celebrated in
style, with the sprint relay team of Hannah Arnold, Nicky Screawn,
Georgie Park and Charlotte Ogden coming away with an emphatic
victory and the gold medal. A fortnight after taking bronze in the
Northern Championships Triple Jump in Sheffield, Charlotte Ogden
excelled to win Gold medals in the triple jump and 2 lap sprint and
a bronze in the long jump. Georgie Park took silver medals in the
standing triple jump and 4 lap race, losing out on the gold medal
in a dip for the line in the latter. Nicky Screawn took bronze in
the speed bounce and silver in the 6 lap race.
The Under 15 Boys were also the winners of their League and their
Championship medals came via golds for David Ward in the speed
bounce and bronzes from Mark Jackson in the speed bounce and Peter
Bridgland in the shot put.
DASH AC Head of Coaching, Joe Frost said 'In the Club's first year
in the Greater Manchester League and only the fifth year since the
founding of the Club, all our teams are doing brilliantly, with the
support of a first-class Coaching team and the support of all our
Athletes and their families. It's great to start the Olympic year
on such a high note, and hopefully these results and all the work
that DASH is doing in Stockport's schools will encourage many more
young people in Stockport to come down to the Club and try
athletics - it really is a sport with something to offer everyone,
and who knows, we may have a future Olympic Champion in
Stockport!'
