Every
time we go to a League competition as a team, we are expected to
provide a number of Officials to help run a field event or help
with judging and timing on the track. In the Cheshire League we
even get points towards the team's score for every one of up to
five Officials that we provide.
As a Club we would like to build up a group of volunteers who
are willing to help out officiating at our League matches. The idea
is that if we have more officials then the time each one spends
officiating can be reduced so that parents are not officiating all
day and can watch their children compete too.
Officiating can appear daunting to those who have not
volunteered before, but there is always a qualified lead official
to help guide you through the competition, and the reality these
days is that the vast majority of officials in local competitions
are parent volunteers.
If you enjoy officiating, whether on the track or in the field,
there is also the opportunity to become qualified, by attending a
UKA Officials Course, the first level of which is just a half-day
and will be funded by the Club.
There are also opportunities to progress very quickly as an
official, right up to being part of the 'National List' where you
can get the chance to officiate at high-level National and even
International competitions.
There are also some exciting opportunities for young officials
to progress quickly in athletics at the moment.
For more
information please see the guides below which are designed to give
information to new officials on the different categories of
officiating:

The next initial UKA training course for new Officials takes
place in April 2012 and we are hoping to identify a number of
willing volunteers who are interested in attending between now and
then. In the meantime, please speak to someone at the Club if you
would like to gain some experience helping out in either of our
remaining Cheshire League fixtures this summer.
If you are interested in helping out, please speak to Elaine Pegler or
Joe Frost
